Terms and Conditions
Below you will find the terms and conditions you agree to by using Refuells.
Please read them carefully and ensure you understand the content before signing up.
Refuells: Terms and Conditions
Refuells is operated by DelTeQ Web Services (Pty) Ltd (the "Service", "we", "us").
The app is made available to you on an "as is" and "as available" basis.
Your use of Refuells is at your own discretion and risk. We make no promises regarding the app's uptime, data accuracy, reliability, security, or content. Distances, fuel consumption figures, costs and driving scores are estimates derived from your device's sensors and from figures you enter yourself. They are not a substitute for your odometer, your fuel receipts, or any statement issued by your insurer.
Refuells is not an insurer and does not sell insurance. Any discount, tier, reward or premium reduction is determined solely by your insurance provider, under your policy with them and according to their rules. A score shown in the app is our calculation of your driving; it does not bind your insurer, and we cannot guarantee any particular saving.
Never operate the app while driving. Trip recording is designed to run in the background without interaction. You remain responsible for obeying all road traffic laws, and nothing in the app relieves you of that.
To use Refuells you create an account and grant the app permission to use your device's location and motion sensors. You may withdraw either permission at any time in the iOS Settings app, but trip tracking and driving-behaviour scoring cannot function without them.
By registering for Refuells you authorise us to contact you by email. You may receive a welcome message, app-related updates, or replies to feedback you have submitted.
Refuells: Privacy Policy
Why does Refuells collect and process data?
Refuells operates a mobile application and is committed to never selling your data. The app collects and processes the minimum required to:
- Record your trips and calculate distance, duration and route
- Detect driving events and produce a driving-behaviour score
- Track fuel purchases and calculate consumption, cost and economy
- Keep your vehicle, finance and insurance records available across your devices
- Improve app performance by analysing usage and monitoring technical issues
What kind of data is stored?
A. Account information
- Your name and email address, supplied when you create an account
- Authentication credentials, held by Firebase Authentication — we never see or store your password
B. Location and motion data
This is the most sensitive category the app handles, and it is collected continuously while a trip is running — including in the background, with the screen locked.
- GPS coordinates, speed and heading, sampled for the duration of each trip
- Start and end addresses for each trip
- Accelerometer and gyroscope readings used to detect harsh braking, acceleration and cornering
- Driving events, each classified by severity (Mild, Moderate, Severe) and stamped with a time and a location
- Phone-handling and speeding events, where those form part of your scoring programme
- Bluetooth and iBeacon identifiers of devices you pair with, used only to start and stop trips automatically
C. Vehicle and fuel records
- Vehicle profiles, specifications, odometer readings and maintenance history
- Refuel entries, including station, price, volume and any receipt image you capture
- Finance contracts and insurance policy details you choose to enter
- Documents you scan or upload against a vehicle
D. Diagnostic and usage data
- Device information (model, OS version)
- App usage data (launches, screens viewed, crash logs)
- Correspondence you send us, such as email enquiries and bug reports
Refuells does not use an advertising identifier (IDFA), does not serve advertising, and does not run third-party advertising or marketing SDKs.
Crash reporting
Crash logs may be collected through Firebase Crashlytics to diagnose and fix issues. This information is used only to improve the app.
Data storage
Your data is stored in Cloud Firestore and Firebase Storage, both operated by Google, and is cached on your device so the app works offline. Data in transit is encrypted with TLS and data at rest is encrypted by the storage provider. Access is scoped to your own account by security rules.
FIXME(legal): state the region the Firestore instance is hosted in, and how long trip and location history is retained before deletion.
Sharing your driving data with an insurer
Nothing is sent to an insurance provider unless you explicitly connect one and turn sharing on. When you do, the app shares the driving-behaviour data that programme requires — typically your score, your event counts and your distance travelled — for the period you have enabled. You can review what is shared, and stop sharing, in the app's settings. Stopping does not retrieve data already sent: the insurer holds that under its own privacy policy, which governs what it does with it.
FIXME(legal): name the programme(s) actually integrated and link each one's privacy policy.
Third-party sharing
We share data only where necessary, and only in the following cases:
- Infrastructure: Google Firebase provides authentication, database, file storage, analytics and crash reporting.
- Insurance providers: only where you have connected one and enabled sharing, as described above.
- Email: our mail provider handles messages sent to and from the app and this website, so your email address is processed by them for that purpose.
- Business changes: in the event of an acquisition or business transfer, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity.
- Legal requirements: we may disclose data where required by law or a court order.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share your location history with advertisers, data brokers or analytics resellers.
Your rights, and how to delete your data
- Access and correction: your records are visible and editable in the app.
- Withdraw permission: revoke location or motion access at any time in iOS Settings. Trip tracking stops immediately.
- Stop insurer sharing: disconnect the provider in the app's settings.
- Delete your account: use the in-app account deletion option, which removes your account and its associated records from our systems.
- Deleting the app alone removes the local copy on your device but not data already synchronised to your account — delete the account if that is what you intend.
To request a copy of your data or ask us to erase it, email apps@delteqis.com with the subject line "Data Request".
Children
Refuells is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone below the legal driving age in their country. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Use of your data
Your data is used solely to:
- Operate the Refuells service
- Share driving data with an insurance provider you have connected, at your instruction
- Communicate with you about service updates, support replies and, where you have opted in, product news
Changes & updates
We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms and this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes will be reflected on this page, and continued use of the Service indicates your acceptance of any updates. Where a change materially affects how your location or driving data is handled, we will notify registered users by email.
